Firewalled" Third Party Conformity Assessment Bodies

One of the interesting provisions in the CPSIA act was the recognition that companies can establish and accredit their own in-house labs. The results of that testing is acceptable to generate General Certificates of Conformity (GCC's). The "firewalled" term is used to clarify that Labs must independent for the company and able to return unbiased and clear scientific results. Theoretically
these Labs could offer their services to external comapnies as well.

On July 20, 2009, the CPSC has identified 7 LABs that are close to being approved.
